BRAD: NOT TO SCRIPT
Wednesday, November 14th, 2007
Well today is the big day of the Labor Party launch in Brisbane at QPAC.
I’m really hanging out for some big guns to come out. We need to regain our ascendancy in the education revolution with some significant education announcements. The bloody Coalition have hijacked our tax rebate and times it by three. What we really need and what would be a real vote winner would be announcing funding for refurbishment and upgrades of existing schools from the ground up. It’s all great to have the bells and whistles but let’s get into the front line of education, class rooms. Education will be the cornerstone of tomorrow’s ALP launch I am sure.
Rudd open to matching PM’s school fee pledge.
Well apart from the Liberals hijacking our sweet policies a few other things have pissed me right off. Let’s see if I can find some news links….one is a bit of a nothing story but one…we could hear alot more about unfortunately…
1. Ok we have Mike Kelly, the candidate in the New South Wales seat of Eden-Monaro, claiming Labor would scrap the current education funding formula.
Mr Kelly said the system of allocating funding to non-government schools, according to the wealth of postcodes in which the parents, live needed to be changed.
‘The postcode doesn’t give you an actual reading of how particular schools are doing in that area, certainly there are not only public but independent schools in some of these postcodes that are missing out,’ he said.
‘So it’s a ridiculous approach to looking at the needs of schools and we’ll move away from that and get down eventually to a proper needs based approach.’
Thank you for delivering the Coalition some more ammo. Come on, I know there is a difference from MP and candidate, but even I am smart enough to know what to say and what not to. Come on, get your acts together!
2. OK I can’t find it. But I heard it on the radio. Something about the ALP candidate for Wentworth George Newhouse not being an eligidble candidate because he didn’t resign from a post 24 hours before submitting his candidacy which is required, instead resigning on the day candidates were announced. Not the biggest deal in the world, but it’s in the letter of the law and that is more than enough to break the wheels off the wagon. I’m sure more will be said about this today. Don’t take my word for it, research it.
